What we do
Celebrating the Eucharist with Children
At St Mary’s, First Communion is a joyful and meaningful milestone in a child’s journey of faith. It marks the time when children are welcomed to receive the bread and wine for the first time, sharing fully in the family meal of the Church. This special moment celebrates their growing relationship with God and their place within our church community.
Before taking their First Communion, children are invited to join a short preparation course led by our clergy and children’s ministry team. Together, we explore the story of the Last Supper, the significance of the Eucharist, and what it means to follow Jesus in everyday life. Parents and carers are encouraged to take part, helping to make this a shared and memorable experience for the whole family.
The First Communion service is a highlight in our church calendar, a time of joy, reverence, and celebration. Surrounded by family, friends, and the wider congregation, the children come forward to receive Communion for the first time, marking a meaningful step in their ongoing journey of faith.
