The stones hold centuries of prayers, hopes & dreams
A church dedicated to St Mary of the Visitation has stood on this site since at least 1231. Over the centuries it has been rebuilt, reshaped, and restored — surviving war, reform, and the growth of Acton from village to town.
Its walls, windows, and monuments bear witness to generations who have prayed, grieved, and celebrated here. From medieval brasses and carved capitals to memorials of local families and national figures, St Mary’s tells a story woven from faith, history, and community life. Step inside, and you walk among the prayers, hopes, and dreams of centuries.
